Who We Are

Renewable Guard is an insurance and risk management brokerage created to meet the unique insurance needs of the Renewable Energy Industry. We represent an industry-leading team of renewable energy-certified risk managers insuring more than 10 GWs of renewable energy projects throughout the country, with an existing client pipeline of projects more than doubling that figure by the end of 2025.

We believe strongly in the power of clean energy and its ability to create a cleaner, more sustainable world. For our part, Renewable Guard can help the push towards reducing carbon emissions by ensuring catastrophic losses do not impact the short and long-term stability of companies who continue to construct and operate these important renewable energy projects.

Our Mission

Renewable Guard was founded on this mission statement almost 10 years ago and began by supporting small to medium-sized Sponsors that were less attractive to large insurance brokers, but still required renewable energy insurance expertise. These Sponsors experienced exponential organic growth and frequently referred us to fellow developers in need of our industry-specific insurance expertise. Our reputation as an expert in renewable energy insurance among Sponsors, Carriers, and Insurance Lender Consultants has been a large contributor to our success and one of the reasons why we are now the trusted insurance retailer for a top 3 Solar IPP in the county.

Unlike many retail insurance firms servicing the renewable energy industry, we are 100% independently owned, representing the interests of our clients alone. Our opinions and operations are independent of the needs of shareholders or meeting sales quotes. The fees and commissions we charge are transparent and are directly proportional to the services we provide. Once we have reviewed existing insurance programs, we may be able to offer a lower commission + incentive compensation for reducing overall insurance premiums from the prior broker.

MIKE COSGRAVE

Principal, CIC, CRM

Michael Cosgrave specializes in placing complex property and casualty programs for renewable energy portfolios that are non-recourse financed. He has 14+ years of experience in renewables and serves as the agency Principal for Renewable Guard. As a leading concierge insurance brokerage, Renewable Guard insures more than 30% of the industry’s top solar developers, including the #1 ranked IPP in the country as reported by Solar Power World annual rankings. In 2021, Michael was named by Insurance Journal as one of 25 National Agents of the Year, due in large part to his team’s innovative strategic approach to insuring all aspects of renewable energy projects from pre-development into operations. His personal experience spans risk consulting, broking, and placement of more than 12 GWs of renewable energy assets throughout the United States. Michael holds the designations of Certified Risk Manager (CRM) and Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC).

DAVID SAISI

Principal, CIC

David specializes in placing operational property, power, renewable energy, parametric, and onshore energy. He has over 20 years’ insurance broking experience and is a respected placement negotiator by underwriters and clients alike. David was previously a Partner and COO at one of the first renewable energy insurance brokers in San Francisco, Walsh Carter. He brings decades of experience to Renewable Guard and its clients. David holds the designation of Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC).

MATTHEW RIST

Partner

Matt Rist is a Partner and Renewable Energy Insurance Risk Manager within the agency. Matt joins Renewable Guard with two decades of experience providing insurance brokerage and consulting to the renewable energy industry, and over 10 GW of insured renewable assets. Prior to Renewable Guard, Matt was Principle of the renewable energy practice at EPIC Insurance Brokers and Consultants, focused on risk management and the placement of complex insurance programs for developers, owners, operators and EPCs. Matt was also a member of Gallager's International Energy team, managing comprehensive insurance programs for clients in the Energy space including Solar, Wind and Natural Gas.

In 2023 Matt was recognized by Risk & Insurance Magazine as a Renewable Energy Power Broker finalist. Matt was a founding member of Iridum Clean Energy, a firm providing risk management consulting to renewable energy and clean tech companies developing new products and technologies designed to mitigate climate change. Matt is an active member of the Solar Energy Business Association of New England (SEBANE).

ANDY GLICKFELD

Sr. Insurance Finance Director, CISR

Andy is a former Lender Insurance Consultant for STANCE. During his time at STANCE, Andy successfully closed more than 100 renewable energy project finance deals. He has worked with both debt lenders and tax equity investors and now serves as Renewable Guard’s lead on client closings. His relationships with existing lender consultants and understanding of commercially viable lender insurance requirements helps our clients navigate difficult negotiations with lenders during hard market insurance conditions. Andy will be a critical resource in relaying your insurance new insurance terms to their lenders. He will also be responsible for contract and policy reviews.

LEAH MORGAN

Director of Client Services

Leah is our most senior and experienced client service provider. Leah has managed the onboarding and successful ongoing service requirements of Renewable Guard’s top IPP clientele. She will serve as your direct point of contact on most service-related items and will delegate responsibilities to the rest of Renewable Guard’s team accordingly. Leah currently holds a Certified Insurance Service Representative (CISR) designation.

DREW KINDELT

Risk Manger / Head of Claims

Drew previously helped manage new business placements and claims at Ridgemark Insurance where he developed an innovative customer claims management system. At Renewable Guard, Drew has implemented a similar responsive claims management program for our clients. This includes an online claims tracker, web-based loss control manual, carrier claims notifications and updates, actuarial loss analysis, and overall claims advocacy. He is also assisting with our small to medium scale renewable energy insurance placements. Drew is currently in the process of obtaining his Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designation.

KATIE DOYLE

Creative Director

In today’s hard insurance market, it has become increasingly important to win the interest of carrier underwriters. Katie has worked as the Director for Digital and Print marketing for companies across a wide range of industries, including insurance. Katie leverages this experience to develop attractive submissions that include video and print media to enhance our client profiles. This helps our clients standout from other IPPs competing for similar insurance capacity.

KEATON CARLSON

Director of Compliance

Keaton heads our compliance team and will be your first point of contact for licensing and state surplus lines filings. Keaton started with Renewable Guard after graduating from the University of Minnesota in 2019, working to create an updated, streamlined compliance and filing process for the brokerage. His contributions to Renewable Guard also include risk management, placement and providing support to some the agency’s top IPP clients. Keaton holds the designation of Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC).

GARRETT MATTHEWS

Sr. Account Executive

As a Senior Account Executive, Garrett provides support to our clients by addressing all levels of servicing needs including responsibilities in SOV management, policy quality control, and client to carrier communications. Garrett began his carrier in the insurance industry after serving five years in the US Marine Corp and has extensive experience working in the middle to large market sectors. Garrett is currently in the process of obtaining his Certified Insurance Service Representative (CISR) designation.

JOSEPH CUNNINGHAM

Controller

Joey comes to Renewable Guard after serving several years as head of finance and accounting for a successful company with 300+ employees based in New York. His responsibilities now include accounting and HR support, while also proactively supporting our agency Principal with the daily management of the business. His decades long experience in business is an asset both to Renewable Guard and our Clients.

ROSS KIDDIE

Sr. BESS Risk Manager / Electrical Engineer

Ross has over 25 years of experience in the renewable energy and power space and is a recognized industry leader and specialist for (BESS) battery storage, risk, and insurance. He previously led the international battery energy storage practice with a UK Managing General Agent and brings his qualifications as a technical advisor, risk manager, underwriter consultant and broker to the Renewable Guard team. He has had articles published in technical magazines on topics covering nat/cat impacts for insurance, software tools for modeling risk and has been a featured speaker and panelist at the Energy Storage Summit and other international conferences.
